Portland Place School

Portland Place School was founded in 1996 and is a central London day school for boys and girls aged between 8 - 18 years. The academic curriculum, leading to GCSE and A-level, is supplemented by a wide range of dramatic, musical and sporting activities.

Portland Place School has a warm and caring environment where every pupil is recognised as a unique individual.  They strive for excellence both inside and outside of the classroom by setting pupils and staff demanding but realistic targets.

David Hyman, Headmaster

David Hyman initially joined Portland Place School as a key appointment in September 2013 as Academic Deputy Head and takes up the role of Headmaster from January 2015. He has already made a large impact at Portland Place and intends to continue to move the school forward whilst retaining its unique ethos. Previously, he had worked as Assistant Headteacher at Hinchley Wood Secondary School, a co-educational school of 1100 students.

David is highly qualified and holds a BSC Hons Mathematics and Management Studies from the Royal Holloway University of London as well as a PGCE in Secondary Mathematics Education from Bath University.  His professional qualifications include NCSL, National Professional Qualification for Headship and NCSL Specialist Leader in Education.

His passion is for high quality teaching and learning and to ensure that pupils are fully prepared for their future careers.  He enjoys playing and watching sport, attending theatrical events and experiencing different countries and cultures on various family holidays.
